Getting hopeful with every passing day as it means a day closer to when I can start my treatment. I can’t wait till they start shrinking these darn things and I can start a normal life again.
No one teaches you in school or as you grow up what do to in these situations, there’s no break glass in case of emergency and there is no instruction manual on what to do in case you get brain tumours. So I live every minute by the minute and make it through the day with all your wonderful help.

Επείγον παράκληση για να βοηθήσουμε να σωθεί γυναίκα με καρκίνο
Η οικογένεια και οι φίλοι μιας γυναίκας από την Πάφο με απειλητικό για τη ζωή της μελάνωμα παρακαλούν το κοινό για βοήθεια ώστε να μαζευτούν αρκετά λεφτά για να σταλεί για θεραπεία στην Γερμανία την επόμενη εβδομάδα.
Η Αλήθεια Ayres, 35 μητέρα ενός δίχρονου αγοριού, ανακάλυψε μόλις πριν από 2 εβδομάδες ότι το μελάνωμα έχει κάνει μετάσταση στον εγκέφαλό της.
Η Αλήθεια υπέφερε από σοβαρούς πονοκεφάλους, ζαλάδες και αναγούλες. Οι γιατροί ανακάλυψαν εφτά όγκους κατά τη διάρκεια ενός scan εγκεφάλου την επόμενη ημέρα που παρευρέθηκε σαν υποψήφια στην εκδήλωση του Paphos Hearts of Gold.
Ήταν υποψήφια για το γεγονός ότι έχει διοργανώσει ένα μουσικό γεγονός για να μαζευτούν λεφτά για φιλανθρωπίες για τον καρκίνο καθώς και για την ίδρυση της ιστοσελίδας Parenting In Cyprus http://www.parentingincyprus.com η οποία προσφέρει συμβουλές και πληροφορίες σε γονείς.
Η αδερφή της Μιχαέλλα Γεωργίου έχει αναφέρει στην εφημερίδα Cyprus Mail: «Είμαστε όλοι σοκαρισμένοι και συντετριμμένοι. Η αλήθεια είχε καρκίνο του δέρματος (μελάνωμα) και είχε κάνει τη τελευταία της ραδιοθεραπεία το καλοκαίρι. Ελπίζαμε όλοι ότι θα ήταν καθαρή.»
«Το μελάνωμα της Αλήθειας έχει επεκταθεί στους λεμφαδένες της και τώρα παρουσιάζεται και στον εγκέφαλό της.» Οι όγκοι επεκτείνονται με ραγδαίο ρυθμό και τις τελευταίες δύο βδομάδες έχουν πολλαπλασιαστεί, τώρα έχει δέκα όγκους.
«Οι γιατροί στην Κύπρο έχουν κάνει στην αδερφή μου εντατική ραδιοθεραπεία για δέκα μέρες σε ολόκληρο τον εγκέφαλο η οποία θα επιτεθεί και στα υγιές κύτταρα του εγκεφάλου με την πιθανότητα να τα σκοτώσει,» ανέφερε η Γεωργίου.
Η οικογένεια πιστεύει ότι οι θεραπείες που είναι διαθέσιμες στην Γερμανία προσφέρουν μια καλύτερη εναλλακτική. «Στην Γερμανία, θα θεραπευτεί μόνο το τμήμα του εγκεφάλου που έχει επηρεαστεί και η ραδιοθεραπεία θα διενεργείται σε κάθε όγκο ξεχωριστά κάθε φορά. Αυτό θα γίνει σε διάστημα είκοσι ημερών.»
Η θεραπεία θα κοστίσει €14.000,00 με επιπλέον κόστος για διαμονή €2.000,00.
«Προσπαθούμε να κάνουμε ότι καλύτερο για να μαζέψουμε τα λεφτά και θα εκτιμούσαμε την οποιαδήποτε βοήθεια για να προσπαθήσουμε να πάρουμε την αδερφή μου για αυτή τη θεραπεία.»
Η αλήθεια ελπίζει να ταξιδέψει στην Γερμανία την επόμενη εβδομάδα.
Έχουν οργανωθεί κάποιες εκδηλώσεις για προσπάθεια συγκέντρωσης χρημάτων για την Αλήθεια και η ιστοσελίδα των Paphos People έχει ανοίξει λογαριασμό στο Pay Pal για αυτούς που επιθυμούν να κάνουν εισφορές. Ο ιδρυτής του φόρουμ Neil Hart αναφέρει: «έχω γίνει κομμάτια μόλις έμαθα για την Αλήθεια, την γνωρίζω προσωπικά και είναι μια τόσο αξιολάτρευτη γυναίκα. Εμείς (το φόρουμ των PP) πάντα θα προσπαθούμε να κάνουμε το καλύτερο για την κοινότητα και θα οργανώνουμε εκδηλώσεις για να μαζεύουμε χρήματα.»

What a wise and wonderful woman you are! Other than sending my wishes and support, I want to tell you something in hopes that you, too Althea, will look back on this in 30 years and smile.
She was 16, my sister Adrienne. And she had a rotten headache (as you do), the doctors didn’t catch the aggressive tumor for another year and then it was the size of an orange. She wept about losing her hair as I held her hand. It was mostly removed and we were told she had a year, at best. It came back a year later. Again she wept about her hair. And they got most of it and again, the very best US facility said she had about a year.
Over the next five years she had two healthy baby girls. And it came back. Again, another terrifying scene, me holding her 2 year old in my arms, all of us crying.
That was 22 years ago. My sister Adrienne sends you her best wishes, Althea. She’s a grandmother now. With nice hair, I might add. You must’ve believe everything the doctors tell you, that’s what my wise little sister has taught me.

The information given didn’t fit the form for on-line bank transfers, so I went to my bank to do it. They told me that if THEY did it they would charge me 10% for the transfer, but if I went to Euro Bank with the cash it would be free. So I did that. The Paphos branch of Euro Bank is on the road from Kennedy Square (the Police Station) towards Limassol; pass Cyta and the new Atlantic offices, just before you reach Makarios’s head statue, it is in a big new building on the right hand side.
